Life-long Learning Workshop by curator and artist Donna Payton of Animal Architects: Influences on Human Creativity
Collage and Mixed Media
In the Meyer Nature & Art Area of the Monmouth Museum

Inspired by the “art” of animals, Artist Donna Payon stated “Who hasn’t wondered at the spiral pattern of a spider’s web, the twig and mud construction of a robin’s nest or the engineering feat of a beaver’s dam? Nature abounds with structures built by animals. Primates to arthropods build homes, traps, nurseries, food storages and courtship displays.” Webs, termite mounds, beehives, burrows, bowers, nests and dams incorporate sophisticated features such as ventilation, temperature regulation, structural strength, multiple escape routes, complicated multi-material site constructions and special purpose chambers which result in aesthetically beautiful forms.
