REVISED TRAVELING TRUNK SERVICE - Bring the Museum to your classroom! Our Traveling Trunk service allows you and your students to pursue 18 different subjects in science, art and cultural history for a two week period. All Traveling Trunks have been ENHANCED and UPDATED with new information and materials. Trunks now include a CD and notebook with resource materials including study & activity guides.
Rental Fee: $35 for a two week period (subject to availability).
All trunks must be paid for in advance and picked up and returned to the Museum.

PRE K – 2ndGRADE
UNDER THE SEA – Marine puppets and seashells will bring the ocean and the seashore to your classroom. Books, puzzles and games offer additional hands-on learning for your students.
DINOSAURS – Learn about Dinosaurs by seeing and playing with Dinosaur figures. Games, books and puzzles will tell the story and history of the Dinosaurs.
THE RAIN FOREST – Discover what animals and plants live in the rain forest and why rain forests are so valuable. Books, games, and stuffed animals bring the rain forest to your classroom.
ALL GRADES - HISTORY
COLONIAL LIVING – Learn about what life was like during the late Colonial Era. This trunk is filled with colonial reproductions such as clothing, lanterns, early eating utensils, children’s games and much more. All items are described and explained.
NATIVE AMERICANS OF THE EASTERN WOODLANDS – The Lenape Indians lived throughout our area. This trunk, which contains many Indian artifacts and information about how they lived, hunted, and dressed, will help your class visualize their way of life.
OREGON TRAIL – This trunk provides a game scenario for a trip over the Oregon Trail. Many people emigrated west by covered wagon circa 1850. Play a scripted game and find out about the adventures and perils these people faced during their trek to Oregon. Game pieces and many western type items are included. Great fun!
NEW JERSEY – This trunk explores the geography, history, folklore and fauna of our unique State. Many interesting fun facts, lesson plans and activities are included. You can bake a cake in the shape of New Jersey with 21 county templates provided in this trunk.
ALL GRADES - SCIENCE
KEEP OUR WATER CLEAN – This trunk, funded by the New York/New Jersey Estuary Program, stresses the importance of unpolluted estuaries, rivers and oceans to marine life and our own existence. Books, videos and posters bring the message home.
DINOSAUR FOSSILS – This trunk asks and answers many questions about dinosaurs. Hands-on dinosaur reproductions make this a truly special trunk.
YOUR BODY: How it Works – This trunk teaches five important systems of the body and explains how these systems work. Many hands-on items and interesting facts are included. Puzzles, CDs, and a life–size skeleton complete the experience.
SEA CHEST – New Jersey is well known for its seashore resorts and beaches, but few people know about the sea animals that visit our shoreline. Many different kinds of New Jersey seashells are presented. Crafts and posters are also included.
HABITATS – This trunk explores various habitats of our world including the Arctic, Desert, Woodlands and Rain Forest. Specimens and animal footprints are available to view and touch, and games to play make this a trunk for everyone. Posters, books and CDs are also featured.
GRADES 4-8
ANCIENT EGYPT – Bring a bit of ancient Egypt to your classroom. This trunk contains many reproductions of Egyptian artifacts, books and games to spark the interest of your students.
FOSSILS – Find out how ancient animals and plants became fossilized and what fossils can tell us about early life on Earth. Many different types of fossil reproductions are included.
LEONARDO DA VINCI – Leonardo DaVinci was a great painter, sculptor, scientist, inventor of machinery and philosopher. This trunk demonstrates his multifaceted talents by including copies of some of his paintings, drawings, inventions and a replica of his giant crossbow.
VICTORIAN PORTRAIT OF A PERIOD – See what the Jersey Shore was like 100 years ago and learn how different life was then without modern conveniences. Find out what the artifacts in this trunk can tell you about life in the Victorian Era.
WORLD WAR II: The Home Front – Posters and photographs bring information about WORLD WAR II to life in a unique way. Many of the photos show how people at home dealt with rationing, blackouts and scrap drives. The importance of women in the workplace is also explored. New York Times newspapers with interesting headlines from the era are also included in this trunk.
AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY – This trunk gives us a timeline of important people, information and events that helped shape our history from slavery up to the present. The many accomplishments of African Americans are explored. Activities are included.
TRAVELING TRUNK OUTREACH PROGRAM - Bring the Museum to your facility!
Let the Monmouth Museum bring the teaching Traveling Trunks to your facility. Experience and explore the arts, sciences, and history with hands-on artifacts, reproductions and pictures. Visit the Seashore, learn about New Jersey Native Americans, or travel back in time to the Colonial Era. Professional Museum docents present the information and resource materials in each trunk and host a discussion on the featured topic. Program Fee: $200 per program. The Museum provides 2 professional docents to present a one-hour interactive program on a selected topic (trunk topics subject to availability).
