PREVIEW: Hope Hanlon of Navesink Garden Club interpretation of Enlightenment by Dallas Piotrowski (image above)
Peacefulness yet strength was the impression I had when viewing “Enlightenment.” Through research I learned that the Lotus has many symbolic meanings in different religions. I wanted to portray the Lotus rising strong from muddy waters through shades of greenery seeking spiritual enlightenment. Using an earth-toned container, i chose clusters of orchids in shades of pink to represent the Lotus. To give depth and texture, I used leaves in a variety of shapes and hues of green.

The Navesink Garden Club has partnered with the Monmouth Museum for a number of years. In 2015 a club member, who is also a Friend of the Monmouth Museum, donated money to the Museum to establish a place where visitors could utilize the outside of the Museum to enjoy trees, plants, flowers and nature. The Friends group is a volunteer committee that helps to raise funds for the Museum and helps to host it’s Main Gallery opening receptions. The club planted native plants and established a butterfly garden. This garden and picnic area is named the Betty Jean and Karl Meyer Art & Nature Area (Meyer Art & Nature Area). Since its inception the members of the Navesink Garden Club (NGC) have helped plant and maintain this area for the public’s enjoyment.
