Fabulous Food: Monmouth Museum Holiday Exhibition
Date(s) - 11/20/2018 - 12/30/2018
10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Fabulous Food celebrates the intersection of art and food. In this merry and mouth-watering international juried show, the Main Gallery will be adorned with two and three-dimensional depictions of food and the festivities surrounding the sharing of a meal. Regardless of country, religion, politics, socio-economic status, race, class and gender, creating and partaking in traditional meals and social activities during the holidays is a common thread present in all communities.
Throughout art history humankind has used the portrayal of food to symbolize, comment on and commemorate what is happening in our own lives and the society surrounding us. Religious paintings of The Last Supper and cherubic picnics with angels; imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruit, vegetables, and fish; vibrant still life works of fruit; iconic
images of the American holiday meals have been the subjects of art in all mediums. The trend of documenting everything consumable has made food the most photographed subject on the internet. These are all prime examples of the impact of Fabulous Food on our creative culture. We welcome your expressions of creativity from the joy of cooking to the obsessions of over-eating.
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
The Main Gallery will also feature our popular Winter Wonderland Model Train Display and a Christmas Tree decorated by The Friends of the Monmouth Museum.
