Monmouth Museum Visiting Artist’s Workshop Presents

Memoir: Stepping into Photographs

Visiting Artist: Shelley Benaroya

Director, Writing Center for Creative Aging

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Part of Americans for the Arts’ National Arts & Humanities Month

This class will be $25 for members and $30 for non-members

Memoir is more than just a stroll down memory lane. An act of reflection, it can help us make sense of our world, our lives, and the lives of those around us. Learn from master writers like Marcel Proust, Annie Dillard, Elie Wiesel, and Maya Angelou how to use memoir to illuminate the people, places, and turning points in time that have shaped who you are.

In this workshop, we will explore how a photograph can open the door to a story waiting to be told. We’ll experiment with strategies that make our memoirs come alive on the page. Join us for a morning of lively discussions, writing invitations, and sharing of stories at the Monmouth Museum. Open to writers and non-writers alike. Bring to the workshop a treasured photograph from home and discover the storyteller in you.
