Most of my work is constructed from driftwood or aged wood which was once dimensional and man-made. I find that driftwood teaches a lesson which only nature can provide.
My work focuses on repetitive patterns and the juxtaposition of opposites. Conceptually, I like to play with contradictions: pretty and tattered, new and old, random and specific, grown and constructed. I enjoy the objects in-and-of-themselves and the history they convey. When working I’m mindful of the humility and the primitive quality of the pieces I’ve collected and try to celebrate those characteristics instead of polishing them.
I try to make art which speaks for itself. There is a lot that goes into its creation but I prefer to remain ambiguous about process and meaning. My aim is to create things that are engaging and familiar and yet compelling. I hope you enjoy the work.
