Today's featured artist from the Monmouth Museum's 45th Annual Juried Exhibition is Elaine Shor @elaineshor20 !

Elaine Shor is a fine artist of Colts Neck, NJ, whose preferred medium is oil paint with a focus on the human form. Shor is a privwtely practicing art therapist and also works in an adult, inpaitent, psychiatric unit at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ. She divides her time between her three fields of interest - designing, painting, and practicing art therapy.

Elaine Shor's piece "Changing World" is part of a series addressing how climate change has effects on all people at every scale of the human experience. Per her artist statement given about the piece, Shor explains "Our environment influences all aspects of our lives, including our interactions with each other. Some groups of people, the very young and the very old, are especially vulnerable to the changes happening around the globe. How will humans respond to these changes? More people will be will be impacted in many ways, including experiencing death and illness from increasingly frequent extreme weather events. The results are disruption of food supplies, increases in diseases and mental health issues. Will we remain strong and be able to unite to overcome these challenges or lose sight of our commonality to the detriment of our existence?"

$10 for nonmembers - $5 for members

Space is very limited, with a limit of 10 participants per session. Please note that a purchase of a workshop fee does not include museum admission for any other wing.

Today, Wednesday, March 26th (and every Wednesday), is Homeschool Wednesday at the Monmouth Museum! This event is for home school families to access the Becker STEAM Wing & the museum as a whole from 12pm-2pm for discounted admission! 💙

For families that have any proof of homeschooling, they will receive discounted admission rates of $9.00 per person (thats $5 off normal admission 😱) from 12pm-2pm!

We at the Monmouth Museum care deeply about making the arts, science, history, and culture we share with you, our community, and our visitors, meaningful.

But we need your help. We want to better understand our visitors' different needs and values so we can best serve you. Museums (like ours!) strive to encourage and expand learning while also addressing the challenges facing our society, and we need to hear your thoughts.

To do this, we are participating in a national survey of museum-goers, sponsored by the American Alliance of Museums. This survey will provide us with data from our visitors, as well as from visitors to museums nationwide, helping us be more effective in the coming months and in the communities we serve.

Today's featured artist from the Monmouth Museum's 45th Annual Juried Exhibition is Anne Bascove @bascove !

Anne Bascove, who artistically goes by Bascove, is a NYC-based collagist, painter, and printmaker. She has been using city bridges as her inspiration since living in Paris by the Serine, and it only intensified on her return to New York City. Bascove's love and fascination of sharing that curiosity and exhilaration through science, architecture, literature and art shows through her work.

Bascove's piece "Brooklyn Bridge" is a collage made of dozens of her photographs of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. This piece celebrates how close to our hearts, how easily identifiable by only a few architectural details this iconic image that the Brooklyn Bridge is, has become. The collage itself is integrated with drawings & gouache, with the structure examined and reordered in new configurations. This piece is carefully constructed in a way that Bascove says "to show the bridge is not as it's seen, which is always a fragment of the whole structure, but as it is felt - charged with movement, surging with energy."

Today's featured artist from the Monmouth Museum's 45th Annual Juried Exhibition is Rachel Mambach @rachelmambachart !

Rachel Mambach is an artist of many mediums and an elementary school art educator! Whether it's painting, fiber art, cut paper, or mixed media, she truly uses her creativity in marvelous ways. Mambach uses her art to bring happiness in today's world, as well as her own, and to bring people together. With Rachel's father, Alex Mambach @alex_mambach_art , introducing art to her life at a young age, art is a positive outlet for her.

Rachel Mambach's piece "Everything Happening at Once" is a piece she created based off a lesson she taught to her elementary students. The following excerpt from Rachel Mambach's artist statement is very inspiring, and a great explanation of the thought behind the piece.

"We were studying abstract artwork and learned that an artist we were studying was inspired by jazz music. I played some Herbie Hancock and told my students to "draw the music". My demo sketch was the inspiration for the painting, and I painted it a few months later at a time when I truly felt like everything was happening at once. Everything at work, everything at home, everything in the news and in the world".
