The Monmouth Museum is currently hiring Museum Educators to work in our Educational Programs Department for Spring & Summer 2020.
A love of learning and sharing knowledge is the most important requirement we have for our candidates. This is the perfect part-time position for retired teachers who want to stay engaged with students or “not-yet-established” educators who want to hone their teaching skills.
Job Description: Museum Educators support the Museum’s Mission to by encouraging visitors to explore the Museum while providing them with the tools and knowledge for a safe, educational and enjoyable visit.
A Museum Educator’s daily tasks may include:
Leading guided tours for schools, scouts and camp groups
Presenting a planetarium program
Conducting educational programs in the Innovation Laboratory
Reading to young children at story-time
Supervising an arts and crafts session
Assisting visitors in the use of interactive exhibition elements
Routine tidying throughout their shift
Greeting guests at our front desk
Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be enthusiastic, pleasant, flexible, and willing to learn and to engage others – especially children and families. Must have good public speaking skills and customer service skills. Experience in education or supervising and working with children in a camp or recreational activity is preferred, but not required.
Most Educators work 10-15 hours per week depending on their availability for flexible shifts on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
Pay: $11.00 per hour

Monmouth Museum Fall Internship – Museum Exhibition Development and Educational Programming: Exhibition Development, Art Education, Arts Management, Fine Arts, or Art History.
Monmouth Museum is seeking interns in the area of Museum Exhibition Development and Educational Programming. This is an unpaid internship for one-two days a week. Candidates will assist in the museum’s Curator, Educational Programs Department, and Arts and Development Department with the installation, operations, and related educational programming for the museum’s fall and holiday exhibitions, and ongoing exhibitions in the museums two children’s wings. The candidates will learn basic skills of exhibition design and development, will assist in the development and presentation of related educational programs, and will act as Gallery Guide to assist guests with information about the exhibitions and the museum in general. The candidate will also participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of the historical archive of the museum’s exhibitions. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degree program in the fields of, Museum Exhibition Development, Arts Management, Art Education, Fine Arts, or Art History.
Duties will include assisting in the installation of the museum’s fall, holiday, and children’s wing exhibitions, learning in-depth knowledge of the workings and content of the exhibition. Assisting museum educators in developing programming for a diverse audience ranging in ages from preschool through senior adults. Assisting guests with information about the museum in general, monitoring galleries to assure safe an appropriate museum manners are used by all guests. This intern will also assist in the ongoing maintenance of the museums physical and digital archives. This internship will run September-December 2019.
